Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) flamed President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet picks for being riddled with sexual assault allegations and “out of touch billionaires” during a speech on the House floor Wednesday.
Recently, Trump’s incoming White House nominees have faced multiple scandals, including Pete Hegseth, whose mother accused him of being an “abuser of women” in an unearthed email.
During his speech, McGovern suggested that the president-elect may replace FBI background checks for his nominees with a “Fox News screen test,” adding that Trump’s cabinet will better resemble a “junk drawer.”
You go out and actually listen to people in this country, Mr. Speaker, they will tell you what they want. And what my friends on the other side have us here debating today. They want politicians to stop catering to those at the top. Yet look at who Donald Trump is empowering in his new administration. This is not what people wanted. I mean, it looks like the requirements to be in the Trump White House that you either abuse women or you’re an out-of-touch billionaire. What’s next? Are they going to replace FBI background checks with a Fox News screen test? I mean, forget about a White House cabinet. Donald Trump is making it into a junk drawer. His commerce secretary, a billionaire. A billionaire. Big surprise. I don’t think this guy is capable of
understanding what average people in my district deal with.
