Pramila Jayapal Laughs at and Joy Reid Mocks Fox News’ Coverage of Illegal Immigrant’s Rape of 13-Year-Old Girl on MSNBC
Congressional Progressive Caucus chairwoman Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) let out a laugh after MSNBC host Joy Reid read a Fox News chyron describing the rape of a 13-year-old girl in New York City by an illegal immigrant aloud during Reid’s show earlier this week.
The conversation began with Reid noting that a strong majority of the country now favors the deportation of all illegal immigrants in the country and Jayapal arguing that the better alternative to such a policy would be to let those who entered the country illegally begin to work more easily.
“There’s a lot of fearmongering,” she lamented.
“Let me show you, this is one of the reasons that people have these sort of thinking, this sort of thinking,” said Reid, jumping back into the conversation. “Here’s the three cable networks reporting of this. Our banner said, ‘Soon: Biden announces legal protections for undocumented spouses of citizens.’ CNN’s banner said, ‘Biden announces new protections for some undocumented spouses.’ Here was Fox’s banner, ‘Migrant arrested for raping 13-year-old New York City girl.'” Notably, the Fox banner used by Reid came from before Biden’s announcement on his new amnesty program, which the network did take live moments later.
This caused Jayapal to let out a laugh and exclaim “Yes!”
“And so I think that’s a part of the problem,” submitted Reid.
“Exactly,” agreed Jayapal.
“You have a lot of fearmongering,” concluded the host.
Jayapal went on to blame opposition to illegal immigration on “economic insecurity.”
On Tuesday, Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, a 25-year-old illegal immigrant from Ecuador, was arrested for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in a park in Queens earlier this month.
Ingra-Landi first entered the country in 2021, when he was captured by Border Patrol before being released into the country. He had been ordered to leave the country by an immigration judge in 2022, but never did and is alleged to have held the victim and a teen boy at knifepoint before tying them up and sexually assaulting the girl.
