Fetterman Warns 2024 Election Won’t Be a ‘Blowout’ for Harris: ‘It’s Gonna Be Close’
Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) warned on Wednesday that the 2024 presidential election would not be a blowout for Vice President Kamala Harris and that the race would ultimately “be close” in states like Pennsylvania and Georgia.
During an interview with Newsmax host Greta Van Susteren, Fetterman said, “I fundamentally believe that whoever can carry their argument and win Erie will win Pennsylvania, and I do think who wins Pennsylvania will be the next president,” before predicting that Harris’ running mate Tim Walz would resonate more with voters than Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance.
Asked about Trump’s 2016 victory in Pennsylvania, which had otherwise voted consistently for the Democratic nominee since 1992, Fetterman said, “I think that what happened is that Trump, he created a strong connection with the people in Pennsylvania. I mean, that’s undeniable.”
He noted, however, that Trump won only by “about 45,000 votes” and that it was “incredibly unlikely” Trump could “outperform his ceiling back in 2016 before a lot of the significant amount of baggage and things happened since then.”
Fetterman acknowledged, “Of course it’s gonna be close, but I’ve been maintaining that whether it’s Biden, whether it was Clinton, or whether now it’s with Vice President Harris, it’s gonna be very close and I do believe she’s gonna prevail.”
He continued:
This is gonna be a close race just like it was in ’20 and definitely like it was in 2016 there too. I’m not expecting that it’s gonna be a blowout in any of those kinds of states like Georgia or whether in Arizona or any of those ones. The states that are gonna decide who’s gonna be the next president, it’s gonna be close, and I think the argument and the kind of record Harris is bringing to this is going to be able to prevail in all of that.
At the end of the interview, Fetterman concluded, “I stand by everything that I’ve said, that it is going to be close, but at the end of the day, I think the Harris-Walz message is going to prevail.”
