Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) said most of the people seeking to immigrate to the United States are “garbage.”
Appearing on Tuesday’s Kudlow on Fox Business, Tuberville reacted to Vice President Kamala Harris being the Democratic Party’s presumptive presidential nominee after President Joe Biden dropped his reelection bid on Sunday. Over the last two, Harris has racked up major endorsements and the crucial support of Democratic delegates that had been pledged to Biden. Barring a major upheaval, Harris will be nominated at next month’s convention.
“She is even farther left than Joe Biden,” Tuberville said. “I didn’t think they could pick anybody worse, but they did.” The senator then attacked Harris on the issue of the southern border, which Biden previously tasked her with addressing. In doing so, Tuberville disparaged most immigrants:
I mean, how can you put somebody in charge of a situation where you let 15, possibly even 20 million people come in our country? Now, some of these people are good, but most of them are garbage. They come from jails and prisons from other countries. And they’ve known that. And so, we’re gonna live in very tough times in the years to come because of a lot of these people that have come in here with different agendas other than living in the great country that we live in now.
The senator’s remarks echo those of former President Donald Trump, who has baselessly claimed other countries are releasing their prisoners and sending them to the United States. Earlier this month, Trump told Fox News, “We’re gonna have a new form of crime” thanks to immigrants.
