A Fox Business guest said on Thursday that the guilty verdict in Donald Trump’s criminal trial will roil the markets on Friday.
John Carney of Breitbart was on the network as it was reported that the jury in the former president’s hush money trial had reached a verdict. Shortly after in court, the foreperson announced that the jury found Trump guilty on all 34 felony counts he had been charged with. Prosecutors alleged that the former president falsified business records to conceal hush money payments to cover up extramarital affairs before the 2016 election, lest the negative press damage his campaign.
“If there is a conviction, what happens tomorrow?” David Asman asked Carney.
“I think markets crash tomorrow if there’s a conviction,” Carney replied. “But I think they will bounce back because, look, even if they put Donald Trump in jail, I think the American people will vote him into president. We will vote him into the White House right out of the New York City jail. It’s an outrageous trial.”
“But if there’s a conviction, you think there’ll be a crash?” Asman repeated.
“I think the markets will do very badly,” he said.
“What are you – talking about a thousand-point loss?” the host inquired.
“I think we’ll see at least a two percent drop,” Carney answered.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 11.
