‘That’s Simply Not Accurate!’ CNN Analyst Rejects ‘Narrative’ Jack Smith Dropped Trump Bombshell For Election

CNN legal analyst Elliot Williams rejected the “narrative” that Special Counsel Jack Smith “dropped some bombshell 30 days before Election Day” and defended the timing of the filing.

The political world was rocked Wednesday afternoon by a blockbuster filing from Special Counsel Smith, which contained new evidence and bombshell revelations in the Jan. 6 case — just a month before the election.

Former President Donald Trump and his allies have complained that Smith made these filings so close to the election for political reasons — and CNN legal analyst Elie Honig made similar criticisms Thursday night.

On Friday morning’s edition of CNN This Morning — just hours after Honig went off on Smith during a CNN segment — Williams went out of his way to push back on the criticism, without naming Honig.

Williams chalked the timing up to the Supreme Court’s calendar and direction from Judge Tanya Chutkan:

MATT GORMAN: How much of this was already new? I think to Elliot’s point, and that there’s nothing that I say, wow, that’s a game changer.

And I think, look, there is a reasonable argument he made that during these 30 days before an election. Like what? What what’s going on here? What are the real motives?

And like even just like little small details like. Well, the fact that they played the Village People YMCA not Hail to the Chief has presidential immunity but connotations and consequences. It makes it a little like it makes it kind of funny–

ELLIOT WILLIAMS: Can I just say, legally, it’s important. This whole why are they doing this 30 days before? That is entirely a function of the Supreme Court’s calendar.

There was a direction from the judge to make this filing. It’s not–.

Somehow the narrative has got out that Jack Smith dropped some bombshell 30 days before Election Day.

That’s simply not accurate! This came from the court, and it’s a filing that’s required to lay out the facts of the case.
