Ted Cruz Guesses Sotomayor Clerk is Behind Supreme Court Opinion Leak: ‘I Have No Evidence’

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) decided to take a shot in the dark and guess that one of Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s law clerks was responsible for the leak of Justice Samuel Alito’s majority opinion.

Cruz and his Verdict co-host Michael Knowles used their latest podcast to discuss the uproar from the opinion draft as it signals a Supreme Court overturn of Roe v. Wade. Cruz said he didn’t believe one of Alito’s colleagues was behind the leak, calling it “beyond imagination” that one of the justices could committed this “grotesque violation of trust.”

Turning to who he thinks might’ve done it, Cruz said it was “very, very likely a law clerk. And it is very, very likely a law clerk for one of the three liberal justices. That means there are 12 human beings who are your likely suspect pool.”

It is likely to be someone who is a hard partisan, and who is willing to burn the place down because he or she was so upset about what happened. If I were to guess, the most likely justice for whom the law clerk is clerking is Sonia Sotomayor.

Asked why he says that, Cruz answered “because she’s the most partisan of the justices, and so, she’s the most likely to hire wild-eyed partisans as clerks.” He proceeded to admit “I have no evidence of that. I’m just making an inference.”
