MSNBC’s Ana Cabrera Asks Byron Donalds If Trump Will ‘Make Good’ On ‘Promise to Exact Retribution’ on Political Enemies

MSNBC’s Ana Cabrera asked Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) about “concern” that former President Donald Trump could “exact revenge” on his political opponents now that he’s won the presidency yet again.

Donalds joined Cabrera and José Díaz-Balart on Wednesday to discuss the election and while Donalds was touting Trump’s victory and the support among voters for him, Cabrera offered a montage of Trump talking about his political opponents.

“He may have won the majority of the votes but there are tens of millions of people who did not vote for Donald Trump. So are you just saying they need to get in line? And here is how Mr. Trump has spoken about political opponents,” Cabrera said.

The clip included Trump at a Michigan rally where he called Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) “sick” and “crazy” and even teased calling her a name that “starts with a B,” stopping short of using profanity to describe the Democratic leader. Other clips included Trump calling Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), now a U.S. senator-elect, “scum,” and saying calling out Liz Cheney as a war hawk. Trump was accused by critics of calling for a “firing squad” for Cheney as he described sending her to wars she supports, but he and others have denied this is what he was referring to, saying the context shows it is a disagreement on foreign policy.

“Congressman, how do you answer Americans who are concerned that he will make good on his promises we’ve heard to exact retribution against political opponents?” Cabrera asked Donalds.

The congressman dismissed Pelosi, Schiff, and Cheney as “never Trumpers” and insisted Trump will bring Americans together through successful border and economic policies.

Donalds said:

“Well, let’s make one thing very, very clear, Donald Trump’s focus is on the American people, the forgotten men and women of this country, the people that work hard every day, the people that want safe streets, the people that want to build generational wealth, the people that want to pass something on to their children. If we’re going to be honest, Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, Liz Cheney, they’ve been never Trumpers from the beginning. They’ve never supported him but the American people support him, but the American people support him. That’s why he won a mandate last night. And so the key thing now in moving forward to focus on the people of our country. Hopefully the politicians in Washington DC, they realize what the American people have said is that they want a secure border, they want a sound economy, and they want leadership that is focused on them first, not their power circles in Washington DC And so that is what occurred last night because Donald Trump’s entire focus has always been on the American people, first, second and third.”
