Tim Walz and AOC Live Stream Themselves Playing Madden NFL Video Game Right in the Middle of a Sunday of Actual NFL Games

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz announced Sunday afternoon they would be live-streaming themselves playing Madden online and discussing next week’s election.

Whoever concocted the voter outreach attempt was seemingly unaware it would be competing with a stacked slate of actual NFL games played by actual NFL players.

If male voter outreach was the desired effect, the obvious scheduling conflict appeared lost on Democrats – who first announced the live stream on Saturday:

Ocasio-Cortez posted a short clip on her X (formerly Twitter) account Sunday to announce she and Walz would be on Twitch soon.

“Hey, everyone, what’s up?” she said in the clip. “We are about to go live with Tim Walz playing Madden in about an hour. We’ll be talking about a lot of other things, but hop on our Twitch stream to check it out.”

Mediaite tuned in to several minutes of Ocasio-Cortez playing as the Buffalo Bills while Walz was representing his home state’s Minnesota Vikings.

Neither could score in the game, which was tied 0-0 late in the second quarter with fewer than 13,000 people watching the stream.

The stream’s comment section was filled with predictable vitriol, unrelated topics, and “FREE PALESTINE” posts as Ocasio-Cortez and Walz took their anemic offenses nowhere and discussed housing costs, climate change, and other issues.

Ocasio-Cortez nearly scored on an interception after picking off Walz after the first-half two-minute warning just before 4 p.m. ET.

The congresswoman was unable to put any points on the board as neither she nor Walz knew how to call a timeout.

The Harris campaign said of Sunday’s stream, “This type of stream will capture attention and boost visibility to reach more viewers – especially among young men, who make up 70% of Twitch’s active users.”

While Ocasio-Cortez and Walz played Madden, here’s an example of what the two were competing with:
