Trump Reportedly Considering Ex-Fox News Host Dan Bongino To Lead Secret Service

President-elect Donald Trump is eyeing another former Fox News host for a key role in his second administration, CNN reported — Dan Bongino to head the U.S. Secret Service.

Bongino was a police officer with the New York Police Department before serving as a Secret Service agent from 1999 until 2011. He first emerged on the political scene as a Republican candidate for Senate in Maryland in 2012. After losing that race, he ran for a Maryland congressional seat in 2014, lost, moved to Florida in 2015, and then ran for a southwest Florida congressional district in 2016, where he came in third in the GOP primary — a campaign that included a notorious incident in which he launched a profanity-laden tirade during a phone call with a reporter.

His media career includes previous stints as an NRATV host and as the host of Unfiltered with Dan Bongino on Fox News. He currently hosts The Dan Bongino Show on Rumble.

According to the report by CNN’s Kristen Holmes, Holmes Lybrand, and Jamie Gangel, Bongino was among the names Trump was considering to head the Secret Service, along with Sean Curran, the head of the president-elect’s current detail, and Robert Engel, the former head of his detail who was with him on Jan. 6, 2021.

A key issue in this appointment is the long list of security failures that led to the assassination attempt at Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania in July. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned in the aftermath of the incident, and Bongino has been loudly critical of her, including accusing her of “putting politics ahead of presidential protection” and calling her “utterly unqualified” for the role.
