Secret Service Investigating Elon Musk for Deleted Tweet About Biden and Kamala Harris: Report

The Daily Wire

Elon Musk is being investigated for a deleted tweet in which he questioned why President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris haven’t faced any assassination attempts.

Shortly after a second attempt was made on Donald Trump’s life at his golf course in Florida, Musk took to his platform to fuel the theory that the Democrats have been behind the attempts. A user known as “DogeDesigner” wrote, “Why they want to kill Donald Trump?” Musk quoted that tweet and added, “And no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala.” (This claim is not accurate; last month a Virginia man was arrested for making death threats against Harris.)

The tweet was met with immediate backlash and Musk deleted it hours later. He then claimed it was a joke taken out of context.

According to report from Bloomberg, the Secret Service took note of the tweet. In the outlet’s newsletter FOIA Files, it was revealed that the Secret Service confirmed Musk’s posts were “compiled for law enforcement purposes.” Those records, however, are being withheld because “disclosure could reasonably be expected to interfere with enforcement proceedings.”

Additionally, Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring confirmed the Secret Service was aware of the deleted tweet.

“As a matter of practice, we do not comment on matters involving protective intelligence,” Herring said in the report. “We can say, however, that the Secret Service investigates all threats related to our protectees.”

As noted by Bloomberg, the investigation is unlikely to lead to serious consequences. Reporters Jason Leopold and Dana Hull predicted that Musk could be “inconvenienced” by a visit from the Secret Service to “prove he doesn’t pose an imminent threat” to the president and vice president.
