Liz Cheney Reacts to ‘Unbelievable Contortions’ JD Vance Goes Through To Smear Critics ‘Who Know Donald Trump Best’

CNN’s Jake Tapper brought former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) on his show Sunday to react to his throwdown interview over the weekend with Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), Donald Trump’s running mate.

Tapper and Vance sparred over Trump’s threats to put his political opponents in jail – or in Cheney’s case before a military tribunal. Vance denied Trump’s past statements and attacked several former Trump officials for publicly warning that Trump is a threat to democracy – including Trump’s former chief of staff ex-Marine General John Kelly.

“Look, you know, Jake, I think what we just watched is, you know what it looks like when someone has got to go through just unbelievable contortions to try to find a way to defend the defend the person that, you know, JD Vance himself called ‘America’s Hitler.’ And just so many so many just really stunning attacks. You know, look, attack me. That’s fine. You can do that all you want,” Cheney began after Tapper asked for her reaction to Vance.

“But for JD Vance to be going after, you know, retired four-star Marine general, gold star father John Kelly. For him to be attacking and lashing out like that and Vice President Pence, so many others, secretaries of defense, the former chiefs of staff, former national security adviser,” Cheney continued, adding:

I mean, I think, look, they understand the Trump campaign, Donald Trump, JD Vance, they absolutely understand how damaging it is for the American people to see all of these unprecedented, unprecedented levels of senior officials from the Trump administration telling the American people that Donald Trump is unfit. And so, you know, they concoct these things that are completely divorced from any connection to the truth to lash out and attack.

But, look, the American people understand, you know, to have these kinds of people like General Kelly come out and speak publicly, you know, they know that at his core, Donald Trump really has no conscience. They know that he’s erratic. They know that he’s chaotic. They know that he’s cruel and they’re telling the American people that. And so it does take a lot of contortions and a real desperation to to try to convince people that they shouldn’t listen to those who know Donald Trump best.

Cheney’s name came up in Tapper’s interview with Vance. “Liz Cheney, [Trump] said, should be put before a war tribunal. None of that sounds fascistic to you at all?” Tapper asked Vance at one point. Vance shot back by again denying Trump’s statement, which he put out on Truth Social.
