Trump Twists the Knife Into DeSantis Over Florida Senators’ Endorsement of Him: ‘They Know Something that Others Don’t’
Former President Donald Trump twisted the knife into Republican presidential rival and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis over the Sunshine State’s Senate delegation’s endorsement of him in the GOP primary.
Both Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) have endorsed Trump’s presidential bid. Scott announced his support for Trump back in November, writing in an op-ed for Newsweek that “President Trump will be our nominee because America was safer and more prosperous when he led our nation.”
“In my view, there is one person running who has the strength to bring America back, who is well-positioned to win the Republican primary, and who will win the general election. And that is why I am supporting Donald Trump for president,” he concluded.
Rubio, on the other hand, endorsed Trump on Sunday, just one day before Trump’s victory in the Iowa Caucus.
“When Trump was in WH I achieved major policies I had worked on for years (like expanded Child Tax Credit & tough sanctions on regime in Cuba & Venezuela) because we had a President who didn’t cave to special interests or let bureaucrats block us,” proclaimed Rubio on X. “I support Trump because that kind of leadership is the ONLY way we will get the extraordinary actions needed to fix the disaster Biden has created. It’s time to get on with the work of beating Biden & saving America!”
On Truth Social Monday night, Trump mocked DeSantis for not securing the support of either senator.
“Thank you to Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott of Florida for the great Endorsements. Nice when both highly respected Republican Florida Senators ENDORSE TRUMP over the missing from Florida Republican Governor, Ron DeSanctimonious! They know something that others don’t,” declared Trump.
Scott is a longtime ally of the former president’s and has long been expected to back Trump. Rubio’s decision was more surprising, given his feud with Trump in 2016 and Nikki Haley’s endorsement of him in that race.
