Lawrence O’Donnell Roasts GOP Lawmaker for Whiffing His Attempt at ‘Trumpian Insult Comedy’ with a False Biden Dig
MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell claimed Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) would have “loved Adolf Hitler” based on an attempt to insult President Joe Biden with a debate dig that ended up being not true.
During a Tuesday monologue on The Last Word, O’Donnell accused Trump of introducing “insult comedy” to American politics and honed in on Hawley, claiming the lawmaker completely whiffed his try at this “Trumpian insult comedy” this week.
“[Biden] can’t stand for 90 minutes – but he’s 100% able to be President? Have fun explaining that,” Hawley wrote on X in response to a report that Biden’s team was trying to “renegotiate” a rule that both candidates must stand at this month’s CNN debate.

A CNN spokesperson has denied these reports, noting that both candidates agreed to the rules of the debate and one of those rules is standing for the 90-minute duration.
O’Donnell offered Hawley an explanation anyway, pointing to a past president who did not need to stand at all.
“I can explain it in three words: Franklin Delano Roosevelt,” O’Donnell said.
Roosevelt was in a wheelchair during his four terms as president after having contracted polio.
Standing, O’Donnell declared, “is not a presidential job requirement.”
“The lie Sen. Hawley used to insult Joe Biden revealed just how much he doesn’t know about the country he lives in,” he said, adding that being MAGA and loyal to Trump means never “having to say you’re sorry for being stupid.”
The MSNBC stayed in the era to expand on his argument, rolling out a Hitler reference.
“Hitler could stand for 90 minutes. He did it all the time. 90 minutes was a short speech for Adolf Hitler,” he said. “Josh Hawley would have loved Adolf Hitler, if standing for 90 minutes and ranting incoherently is something Josh Hawley really admires as presidential. Josh Hawley knows that it doesn’t matter how long a president can stand.”
