Diner Tells Fox & Friends Reporter He Supports Higher Taxes to Fund Green New Deal

A patron interviewed as part of Fox & Friends‘ recurring diner segments stunned his interviewer when he called for taxes to be raised in order to fight off the “devastating” consequences of climate change.

Fox & Friends correspondent Todd Piro interviewed Jack, an info specialist at a diner in Riverside, Missouri, who said he supports the Green New Deal proposed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

“It’s really important we keep below 2 degrees Celsius of average warming, otherwise the consequences are going to be devastating,” Jack said.

“How do we pay for it?” Piro asked.

“How did we pay for World War II?” Jack shot back. “At the end of the day when something is this important, our economy is going to suffer if we don’t pay for it.”

Piro pressed Jack on whether he believed climate change is “as big a deal” as the Second World War.

“Yeah. I mean, a little over 400,000 Americans died in World War II, and climate change is killing 150,000 people per year at least,” Jack said.

“How are we going to pay for it?” Piro asked.

“During World War II, for one thing, the government pushed some of the cash up front, and raise some tax on some folks,” Jack said. “At the end of the day, it stimulated the economy so much that everyone benefited.”

“You are in favor of raising taxes in order to support the Green New Deal?” Piro said, somewhat stunned.

“If that’s the optimal solution the economists sort out, I will go with that,” Jack replied.
