‘This is a War!’ Tommy Tuberville Tells Newsmax Americans ‘Need to Wake Up’ After Trump Conviction

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) declared “war” over Donald Trump’s conviction on 34 felony charges, telling Newsmax the American people and some of his Republican colleagues need to “wake up.”

Tuberville joined the pro-Trump network on Tuesday after he and a group of senators vowed to oppose all major nominees and legislation from President Joe Biden’s administration in the wake of Trump’s conviction in Manhattan. Tuberville joined Sens. J.D. Vance (R-OH), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Rick Scott (R-FL), Roger Marshall (R-KS), and Marco Rubio (R-FL) in making the declaration of opposition.

“We are unwilling to aid and abet this White House in its project to tear this country apart,” the senators wrote.

Tuberville told Newsmax the letter was not just a message to Biden, but it was meant as a message to Republicans. The senator said the American people need to “wake up” and some of his colleagues need to take his warnings more seriously because the Trump conviction means “it’s a war.”

Tuberville said he doesn’t believe in terms like Republican and Democrat anymore, claiming there’s only those for the country and those who want to “change it to how you want it to be.”

“To me, they’re not really taking this as seriously as we should. The American people need to wake up. This is a war. This is a war on our constitutional rights, our constitutional republic. This is not as much about Donald Trump as it is about the people in this country. I don’t call us Republicans and Democrats anymore,” he said. “You’re either for our great country the way it’s been for the past 248 years or you’re anti-, you want to change it to how you want it to be.”

Democrats, he claimed, want to send the country off a “cliff” and claimed they should be “worried.”

“We have so many bad things going on in this country right now. They are worried about Republicans taking back over the country that we love,” he said. “And they better be worried about it because we will take back Nov. 5 if they continue down this road of nonsense.”
