CNN contributor Scott Jennings officially endorsed Donald Trump for president after blaming for a “literal insurrection” during the January 6th Capitol riot.

Jennings wrote a column in the LA Times on Sunday where he claimed that he’s “more worried about the country’s future than any problems I’ve had with Trump in the past.” Current polling averages and projections show a tight race between Kamala Harris and the GOP nominee in several battleground states.

Back in 2021 following the Capitol riot, Jennings blamed Trump for “the insurrection” sparked by “his lies and conspiracy theories.”

He wrote, “President Donald Trump caused this insurrection with his lies and conspiracy theories about the election process being rigged against him. It was not stolen, but this madness was fomented by the President and his top advisers over the past several months. His attorney Rudy Giuliani, at a rally on Wednesday, called for ‘trial by combat’ to a roaring crowd.”

Jennings wrote at the time:

Let me be clear: These rioters are not Republicans. These are not conservatives. These are not patriots bursting into the US Capitol, accosting police officers and destroying public property.

These are domestic terrorists, and they ought to be treated like any other terrorist uprising with the full force and fury of the US government. Trump’s video calling out these terrorists – which he released on Twitter – was a complete failure of leadership, a half-hearted and wholly inadequate attempt to stop these individuals.

However, in his Sunday column for the times Jennings told readers that “any problems I’ve had with Trump in the past” are now less important than the risks to the country’s future.

The Republican Party’s roller coaster ride with Donald Trump makes its last loop this week, as the American people prepare to render one final judgment on the man who has dominated our politics and culture since 2015,” He wrote.

Jennings continued, “Because I’m a lifelong conservative Republican who doesn’t like to be jostled all that much, this ride has tested my fortitude at times. I was none too pleased with Trump after Jan. 6, 2021, and thought perhaps the party was done with him after the 2022 midterm, a GOP underperformance largely blamed on the former president.”
