New York Post Endorses Trump Just 2 Years After Declaring Him Unfit For Office Over ‘Eternal Shame’ of Jan. 6
The New York Post endorsed Republican nominee Donald Trump for president on Friday, just two years after its own editorial board condemned him as “unworthy” of office over the “eternal shame” of his inaction during the January 6 Capitol riots.
If a week is a lifetime in politics, apparently two years is an eternity long enough for a full 180 degree switch of position. On its Friday front page the Post declared Trump the “clear choice for a better future,” embracing the former president once again, despite the past criticisms of his conduct and the “high drama” of his administration.

The Post’s endorsement marks a dramatic pivot from the Editorial board’s damning July 2022 article that slammed Trump’s “damning” silence on January 6.
“For three hours, seven minutes,” they wrote at the time. “Trump didn’t lift a finger to stop the violence.” His refusal to intervene as his supporters stormed the Capitol was, according to the paper, “incitement by silence.” Instead, they argued, he “fanned the flames” and sought “to pressure Vice President Mike Pence to decertify the election of Joe Biden.”
“As a matter of principle, as a matter of character, Trump has proven himself unworthy to be this country’s chief executive again,” the editorial concluded.
Now, however, the editorial board is backing Trump over Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris, citing Trump’s economic and immigration policies as reasons to support him.
The board writes: “Only one candidate can credibly claim to lead us there. Donald Trump.”
The editorial, which makes no mention of the Capitol riots that so outraged the board before, praises Trump’s “strength and vigor” despite “the unprecedented and disgraceful weaponization of the justice system against him, two assassination attempts and the all-too-familiar constant barrage of hysterical media attacks on him.”
The endorsement criticizes the Biden administration, framing Harris as a “radical,” and frames the choice this election as “stark and simple” — calling Trump “the right choice.”
