Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) called out Democratic senators in a close door meeting for trying to “f*ck over a great president,” according to a new report from Politico.

Earlier this week, sources tell Politico that three of Joe Biden’s senior aides, Mike Donilon, Steve Ricchetti and Jen O’Malley Dillon, attended a Senate Democratic lunch on Thursday, where they touted internal and external polls showing that the president’s standing in the race is still within the margin of error.

However, the information did not appear to ease lawmakers attending the reportedly “difficult” and “tearful” as senators voiced concern over Biden’s ability to beat Donald Trump in the November race and serve another four years in the Oval Office.

A growing number of Biden’s own party members have begun calling on him to step aside from the race, following his poor performance at the CNN debate last month.

Moreover, lawmakers appeared worried that Biden’s poor approval ratings may affect Democrats running down the ballot this election cycle.

These concerns and questions regarding Biden’s ability to serve reportedly enrage the Pennsylvania senator who called out lawmakers for trying to “f*ck over” Biden because of one “bad debate.”

“You have legacies, too,” Fetterman said, adding how would they be remembered “if you fuck over a great president over a bad debate.” Fetterman then demanded to know who at the meeting was sticking firmly with Biden as the Democratic nominee.

The outlet reports that “no more than four people” voiced full support for the president at the Senate meeting, including Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) and Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL).

Per Politico:

The paltry show of support for Biden behind closed doors revealed that for all the indecision about whether and how to confront Biden, elected Democrats’ confidence in the president had plunged to a ruinous low. While Senate Democrats have largely kept quiet publicly, Biden may have to plow ahead despite an overwhelming lack of confidence from his former Senate colleagues. The majority of the Democratic caucus left Thursday’s meeting just as, if not more, concerned about the path the party is on with Biden atop the ticket.
