MSNBC Guest Says He Spotted Trump ‘Editing’ Speeches Allies Made Outside the Courtroom

New York Magazine contributing editor Andrew Rice claimed on Tuesday that he spotted former President Donald Trump “editing” and “making notations” to the speeches his allies then made outside of the courtroom during his hush money trial in New York.

After MSNBC host Alex Wagner played several clips of Trump’s allies – including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), and Vivek Ramaswamy – delivering very similar speeches outside the courthouse, attacking Judge Juan Merchan’s daughter and accusing her of making money from the trial, Rice claimed:

In court yesterday, actually, I was sitting close enough that I could actually look over Trump’s shoulder and see what he was reading. At one point he was actually reading the quotes that these individuals were– and going through and making notations with a pen on the paper.

“Before or after?” asked MSNBC host Chris Hayes, to which Rice replied, “While testimony was going on. While Michael Cohen was testifying against him, he was actually going and going through and annotating and editing the quotes that these people were going to say.”

Former Trump White House Communications Director Michael Dubke suggested on CNN Tuesday that Trump had mobilized his allies and proxies to the courthouse in an effort to “get around the gag order” imposed on him by Judge Merchan.

“They have the ability to say the things that Donald Trump has been wanting to say but has basically been struck down ten times for saying,” said Dubke. “So this is one way to get around the gag order.”

The gag order specifically states that Trump shall not direct any third party to speak on his behalf in a way that violates the ruling. It’s not clear if what Rice is describing, if accurate, violates the gag order,
