Ex-Trump Official Alyssa Farah Griffin Laughs at Vance ‘Straight Up’ Lying About Trump Saving Obamacare: ‘We Were Trying To Repeal’ It
The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin accused Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) of “straight up” lying when he said at Tuesday’s vice presidential debate that former President Donald Trump “saved” Obamacare.
During the CBS News debate between Vance and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), Vance claimed that Trump “saved” and “salvaged” the Affordable Care Act, a comment that has turned some heads as repealing Obamacare was central to Trump’s 2016 campaign and an early priority in his administration. When Trump first took office in 2017, he signed an executive order to begin the process of rolling back Obamacare.
According to Vance, Trump could have “destroyed” Obamacare, but he ultimately “salvaged” it.
“When Obamacare was crushing under the weight of its own regulatory burden and health care costs, Donald Trump could have destroyed the program,” Vance said. “Instead, he worked in a bipartisan way to ensure that Americans had access to affordable care.”
Walz noted during the debate that the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) cast a crucial “no” vote in shooting down a full repeal of the health care law.
On The View, Griffin, a former communications official in the Trump White House, called out Vance’s declaration at the debate after fellow host Joy Behar called both Trump and Vance “pathological liars” while Griffin was complimenting Vance as a debater.
“I have to say because I’m a Romney, Ryan, McCain Republican — I’m not a MAGA Republican, but if you are a MAGA Republican and if you love what Vance was selling wouldn’t you be like this guy is my fighter? He can make it through 90 minutes without melting down about rallies and crowd sizes, not Donald Trump. I suspect how glowing the reviews from the right are about JD Vance is going to ultimately irk Donald Trump because he cannot debate the way JD Vance does,” Griffin said.
“Yeah, but they’re both pathological liars,” Behar responded.
Griffin agreed and then honed in on Vance’s Obamacare comment.
“When he said Trump tried to save Obamacare, I was on Capitol Hill, we were trying to repeal Obamacare. I’m willing to admit what we were trying to do as Republicans. He just straight up lied about that,” Griffin said, laughing in disbelief.
