Jan. 6th Committee Member Slams Mark Meadows, Defiant Trump Officials: ‘Where is Their Patriotism? What Are They Trying to Hide?’
A member of the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol slammed former Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and other former Trump administration officials on Tuesday for defying the committee.
During an appearance on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House, Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) remarked that on this day, the 80th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, America examined “the failures” behind that attack and 9/11. She argued that Jan. 6 should evoke the same sentiment to find out what went wrong.
“What is wrong with these people, who were in government, that they don’t want to uncover what happened on Jan. 6th? Where is their patriotism? What are they trying to hide?” asked Lofgren.
Lofgren’s words came as Meadows is reportedly no longer cooperating with the committee, which has threatened to refer him to the Department of Justice for criminal contempt of Congress should he fail to appear before the committee on Wednesday.
Tomorrow’s deposition will go forward as planned.
If indeed Mr. Meadows refuses to appear, the Select Committee will be left no choice but to advance contempt proceedings and recommend that the body in which Meadows once served refer him for criminal prosecution.
