‘This Man Never Tells The Truth!’ CNN’s Jim Acosta and Kate Bedingfield Mock Trump Claim He’ll Testify

CNN anchor Jim Acosta and former Biden comms chief Kate Bedingfield barely contained laughter as they reacted to Trump’s claim he’ll testify in his hush money trial and “tell the truth.”

Trump will be required to appear in court Monday morning for jury selection in the case that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has brought involving hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels in order to interfere with the election, which resulted in a several-dozen-count indictment of Trump.

But on Friday, Trump raised the prospect of doing more than just making an appearance, telling reporters he’s prepared to testify.

On Monday morning’s edition of CNN This Morning, Acosta and Bedingfield expressed skepticism on both counts:

JIM ACOSTA: I guess Trump was asked, you know, will he take the stand, Willie? Tell the truth. What’s he going to do? Let’s listen to that. We have that. Do we ever.

DONALD TRUMP: I don’t know, I’m testifying. I tell the truth. I mean, all I can do is tell the truth. And the truth is that there’s no case, they have no case.

JIM ACOSTA: All I can do is tell the truth, he says.

KATE BEDINGFIELD: This man never tells the truth! So I’m not sure exactly–.

JIM ACOSTA: Could be a challenge!

KATE BEDINGFIELD: I’m not sure why we think this would be any different.

You know, look, I do think politically, if he is going to, take the stand, he’s going to be talking about this case. I mean, I think the kind of conventional wisdom is this case is less politically damaging for him than the other potential cases he’s facing, which are more and more rooted in, some of the constitutional issues, that he has flouted.

But, you know, as a political matter, I think any time you are on trial and you are, testifying on your own behalf in a trial, that is not a helpful thing. That is not persuasive to general election, voters.

You know, it’s maybe persuasive to his MAGA base that it’s shown time and again that they are absolutely die hard for him, regardless of what he does.

But the MAGA base alone isn’t enough to get him to 270 electoral votes. And so, you know, anytime the backdrop for him is, a courtroom and, you know, his, potentially criminal proceedings on this on trial here. I think that that’s not a good thing for him.

So if he, you know, maybe the right legal strategy, I don’t know, I defer to the legal eagles on that. But politically, you know, I think that will be deeply problematic for him and will be a great contrast for the Biden campaign to seize on.

JIM ACOSTA: Yeah.
