Amused Anderson Cooper Asks Reporter About ‘Macho Man’ Blaring Throughout Her Report from Trump Rally: ‘Um, What’s the Scene Like?’
CNN reporter Kristen Holmes admirably slugged her way through a three-minute report, during which “Macho Man” by The Village People played the entire time. The music was so loud, Anderson Cooper could not help but ask about it.
On Friday’s AC360, Holmes reported from a just-concluded Donald Trump rally in West Palm Beach, Florida on the former president’s 78th birthday. She reported that Trump and his allies have strategized on how to respond to certain questions in Trump’s debate with President Joe Biden on June 27 on CNN.
“Now, on the topics they talked about, one that was very critical because they believe this is going to be an inevitable question in a debate was about democracy, about January 6, how to answer questions about the attack on the Capitol that day,” Holmes said, noting that Trump has floated pardoning the Jan. 6 rioters if he returns to the White House.
“Now, obviously, they didn’t give us any insight into what those answers there’s might be, but we should expect more of these kinds of policy sessions, more of these interviews,” she continued. “They actually said the part of his debate prep would be a contentious interview. So, far we haven’t really seen that. He’s sat in interviews with Sean Hannity and Dr. Phil, but all of this, they say, is wrapped into getting him ready to face off with President Joe Biden.”
Cooper couldn’t help but note the song that had been playing in a distractingly loud manner during Holmes’ report.
“Um, what’s the scene like at Trump’s birthday celebration?” the host asked. “They’re playing, apparently, ‘Macho Man’ by The Village People.”
“I’ll tell you, he really embraced the fact that it was his birthday,” Holmes answered. “Yesterday, it was his team that posted Senate Republicans presenting and with a cake. Today, they sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him on the stage. I say that with surprise because Donald Trump is very much aware that his age is a factor in this race as much as President Joe Biden’s age is a factor.”
“Playing the greatest hits,” Cooper replied.
