Charlamagne Tha God questioned Democrats and their belief that President-elect Donald Trump is a “threat to democracy” after watching both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris react to his victory over the last few days.
On Friday’s edition of The Breakfast Club, the radio host listened to snippets of Biden’s speech reacting to Harris’s loss, and the optimism from the president made Charlamagne doubt Democrats’ main argument against Trump.
“Don’t y’all find it strange that now that he’s won, they’re not calling him a threat to democracy? They’re not calling him a fascist. I mean, damn, on Monday, they was just calling him that,” Charlamagne said.
The radio host argued that speeches from the president and others should be a tad more gloomy if they really believe a fascist is about to be in the White House.
“I would think that, you know, if you really believe that, then somebody’s speech would be about how America effed up and how things are about to be really bad. It just makes you wonder how much of it did they really believe, or how much of it was just politics. That’s all,” he said.
Harris stuck an optimistic tone in her concession speech this week, declaring that her “heart is full.”
“The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for, but hear me when I say, hear me when I say the light of America’s promise will always burn bright. As long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting,” the vice president said.
Charlamagne previously warned Democrats against blaming things like “sexism” and “racism” for Harris’s loss, accusing the Democratic Party of simply being out of touch on major issues.
“I don’t think it’s fair to just chalk up Trump winning to racism, sexism, homophobia, anti-semitism, yes, he tapped into all of the worst things America has ever had to offer and there are a lot of people who agree his rhetoric and voted for him because of those reasons, but I truly believe most people voted for him because they want more money in their pockets and they want to feel safe,” he said.
