Vice President Kamala Harris pushed back on accusations she’s struggling with Black male voters during an appearance on The Breakfast Club on Tuesday.

Harris called into the show and was asked if she has a message for Black male voters who feel she is not speaking “directly” to them and their needs. Loren Lorosa did not finish the question before Charlamagne Tha God jumped in to call Black men not supporting Harris “a lie.”

“Even if it’s a lie, people are still saying it,” Lorosa said. “What is your strong push to any Black man that feels that you aren’t speaking directly to them and about the things they should care about for their families and for themselves?”

“The brothers aren’t saying that,” Harris responded. “I was just at a barbershop in Philly talking with very incredible and distinguished men who are leaders in their community in small business and education. And these men, these Black men, were talking about not only their support for me but most importantly their support for my perspective on what we can do that lifts up the community and taps into the ambitions and the aspirations.”

CNN’s Harry Enten previously reported that Harris is on track to perform worse than previous Democrats have in presidential elections among Black voters.

At a rally in Pittsburgh, former President Barack Obama said underwhelming support was “most pronounced with the brothers.”

“Part of it makes me think — and I’m speaking to men directly — part of it makes me think that, well, you just aren’t feeling the idea of having a woman as president, and you’re coming up with other alternatives and other reasons for that,” Obama said.

More recent polling from the Alliance for Black Equality, Harris has increased her support among Black men, including a 10% boost among Generation Z.

The vice president went on to say that she’s heard directly from Black men at her rallies and they tell her not to listen to that narrative, which Harris called a “media narrative.”

“The Black men in particular who are at these rallies have recently been saying to me, don’t listen to that,” she said, “and they got to stop with all the noise, we support you.”
