The View co-host Sunny Hostin called radio host Charlamagne tha God “irresponsible” after he dismissed both President Joe Biden and Donald Trump as “trash” candidates while Hostin and Whoopi Goldberg pushed for him to back Biden.
“I thought it was irresponsible to say that both candidates are trash, when you’re comparing President Biden, someone who’s done incredible things for this country and someone who is facing 88 charges, and four indictments and is clearly criminal, in my view,” Hostin said on The View: Behind the Table podcast after the Charlamagne interview.
Hostin repeated something she said to Charlamagne the day before, saying, “it’s not the time to sit this one out.”
“It’s not the time to step back, Charlamagne. It’s not the time to sit this one out. It’s not the time to take your ball and go home. So I’m disappointed,” she said.
Hostin referred to Charlamagne’s massive following from his Breakfast Club show and suggested he’s feeding “voter apathy.”
She also claimed he was dancing around an endorsement of Biden while “too much is at stake.”
“He is going to vote for Joe Biden. Then say it, don’t dance around it. This is not the time to sit it out. Too much is at stake,” Hostin said.
While on The View, Charlamagne rejected the accusation that he’s “sitting out” the election. He argued no one is owed his endorsement and he’d rather focus on “issues” than “individuals.” He implied he would vote for Biden, calling Trump a “threat to democracy,” but rejected the idea that this means the president is owed his full backing. Charlamagne dismissed both Biden and Trump as “trash.”
“If I’m sitting here telling my listeners that you have somebody out there who is a threat to democracy, you have somebody who out who said they want to suspend the Constitution to overthrow the results of an election,” he said. “You saw this person try to lead an attempted coup of this country, and I’m telling people that this guy’s a threat to democracy… There’s only two candidates out there so if I’m saying that about this individual, the choice is clear, right?”

Charlamagne called his experience on The View the “strangest thing ever” in an interview with Megyn Kelly.
“There was another moment in that conversation where I just said, ‘Hey, there’s third-party candidates,'” he said. “Whoopi told me she’ll beat my behind if I bring up, you know, third-party candidates, so I just think it’s kind of strange where we are as a culture and as a society where it’s almost like there’s either one of two extremes.”
