California Gov. Gavin Newsom is launching a podcast with retired NFL star Marshawn Lynch and Doug Hendrickson — Lynch’s agent and a longtime friend of Newsom.
The podcast, named Politickin’, was announced Wednesday by iHeartMedia. According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, it’s been in the works for months.
“Newsom and Hendrickson have been friends since the ’90s,” Schefter tweeted. “Hendrickson has represented Lynch since 2007. They have been working on this podcast for the past six months.”

In a minute-long teaser introducing themselves, Lynch explained that the podcast is about “bridging gaps.”
“You sit down, you come to the roundtable. We need to figure it out,” Lynch said. “I need to figure out where you’re coming from. But you need to figure out where he’s coming from. Your ‘politickin’ might be a little but different, you feel me? You handle yours a different way. We bring each side, all walks of life — like how we’re doing right now — and we figure out what we got going on; and what I’m gonna call that is ‘politickin.’ Not because he’s a politician, but because that’s just what we do.”
Newsom added, “We got a lot to do together right now.”
In the podcasts’ description, it says the weekly show will involve “conversations that need to be had.” The first episode premieres July 15.
