Mother of Hunter Biden’s Daughter Defends Him Against ‘Cruel’ Coverage in Daily Mail Op-Ed: ‘I’m Proud of Him’

After staying silent for the sake of her family’s privacy, Lunden Roberts, who shares a daughter with Hunter Biden, wrote a supportive column in Daily Mail on Thursday criticizing “political opponents who seize[d] upon his mistakes and use[d] his addiction against him.”
Roberts, a former assistant to Hunter, gave birth to their daughter Navy Joan in 2018 and has mostly kept a low profile when it comes to her relationship with the First Family. A prolonged child support battle with Hunter Biden had a lot to do with that, but after five years of denying the media “the sorts of headlines they are looking for,” Roberts is telling her side of the story, in which she says is “100 percent behind Hunter’s recovery and his determination to become the loving father figure that all five of his children deserve.”
She wrote:
Yes, he’s led a privileged life, but Hunter has also lived in the public eye with political opponents who seize upon his mistakes and use his addiction against him.
Honestly, I’ve had a taste of that myself but the hurtful things that have been written about me are nothing in comparison to how Hunter has been portrayed.
One day soon Navy Joan is going to be old enough to search the internet seeing the countless newspaper articles dedicated to her father’s transgressions and I cannot fathom how she may feel.
I have no desire to add to that. What kind of mom would want to pour more fuel on this fire?
I’ve seen what addiction can do to people and I think it’s cruel that Hunter has had to go through recovery with a target on his back.

Roberts also explicitly expressed her current feelings about Hunter Biden as a father:
One thing is certain, Navy Joan is so proud of Hunter, not because he’s a Biden, but because he is her dad.
And I’m proud of him too. Hunter has had the courage to admit his mistakes and learn from them. That’s a valuable lesson for every parent to teach their child. His honesty is raising much-needed awareness that addiction is a disease that requires understanding and compassion.
Roberts adds that Navy Joan “has a huge heart just like her father,” and “she adores building the bond that they are creating.” She finishes off with a request that the media back off:
I ask that people respect their privacy so that this treasured bond can continue to flourish. There will be people who say, can this woman be for real? These people have never walked in my shoes.
They’ve never met my daughter and they haven’t spent a second thinking what is best for her.
But that’s exactly what Hunter and I did last summer. We set aside our differences and came together for the sake of our adorable little girl.
That’s why I’m 100 percent behind Hunter’s recovery and his determination to become the loving father figure that all five of his children deserve.
In addition to several members of the media painting Hunter Biden as a deadbeat bad, his father President Joe Biden was also a target for only acknowledging six of his seven grandchildren in public. President Biden later spoke to People Magazine about his granddaughter and her mother, saying: “Our son Hunter and Navy’s mother, Lunden, are working together to foster a relationship that is in the best interests of their daughter, preserving her privacy as much as possible going forward,” adding “Jill and I only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy.”
