Speaker Johnson Rolls His Eyes When Biden Attacks Republicans Over Jan. 6, But Applauds Veiled Shot at Trump
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) rolled his eyes and shook his head on Thursday after President Joe Biden attacked Republicans in the audience over the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot.
“We will not bow down! I will not bow down!” declared Biden during his State of the Union address. “In a literal sense, history is watching. History is watching. Just like history watched three years ago on January 6 when insurrectionists stormed this very Capitol and placed a dagger to the throat of American democracy.”
Johnson, who was sat prominently behind Biden, could be seen rolling his eyes and shaking his head.
“Many of you were here on that darkest of days. We all saw with our own eyes the insurrectionists were not patriots. They’d come to stop the peaceful transfer of power, to overturn the will of the people,” Biden continued. “January 6 lies about the 2020 election and the plot to steal the election posed a great gravest threat to U.S. democracy since the Civil War. But they failed. America stood. America stood strong and democracy prevailed.”
As Biden received applause, Johnson again shook his head.
Johnson again rolled his eyes and shook his head after Biden took a shot at Republicans in the audience, declaring, “My predecessor and some of you here seek to bury the truth about January 6. I will not do that.”
However, the speaker did applaud and nod his head just a few moments later after Biden said, “This is the moment to speak the truth and to bury the lies. Here’s the simple truth. You can’t love your country only when you win.”
Johnson also applauded when Biden took a veiled shot at Trump and said that “political violence has no place, no place in America.”
