Sports commentator turned hard-right political commentator and radio host, Clay Travis, argued on Monday that pro-Trump New Yorkers should take the former president’s trial into their own hands and try and sway the outcome.
“If you’re a Trump supporter in New York City who is a part of the jury pool, do everything you can to get seated on the jury and then refuse to convict as a matter of principle, dooming the case via hung jury. It’s the most patriotic thing you could possibly do,” Travis wrote on X Monday.
Former President Donald Trump’s trial for allegedly falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels began on Monday after months of delay tactics from Trump’s legal team, which included trying to have the trial moved out of New York City.
Fox News columnist David Marcus replied to the Outkick founder, “This is a dangerous road that requires the violation of a sworn oath, but I get it.”
National security lawyer Bradley Moss offered a less charitable reply, adding, “Clay is arguably conspiring to commit jury tampering here by encouraging someone to deliberately engage in jury nullification. Not a wise move by Clay.”
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) went a step further, writing, “Jury tampering. That’s what they do. *It’s a felony.”
