Martha MacCallum Seemingly Irked by Clay Travis’ Derogatory Comment About Nikki Haley: ‘Why the Anger?’
Martha MacCallum temporarily cut off OutKick founder Clay Travis after he suggested Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley is dumb.
Haley is the last person standing between Donald Trump and the Republican presidential nomination, which he will likely secure. The former South Carolina governor has so far rebuffed calls to drop out and instead hopes for a surprisingly good showing in her home state, where Trump leads by at least a couple of dozen points according to polls.
On Friday’s The Story on Fox News, Travis said there’s no scenario in which Haley is the nominee and posited that no one supporting Trump in 2024 will support a potential Haley run in 2028. He added that Haley should have called it quits after last month’s New Hampshire primary:
TRAVIS: After New Hampshire – if she had a brain, Martha – I think she would’ve gone to Trump and said, “Ok, you’re gonna be the nominee.”
MACCALLUM: Well, she obviously has a brain. We only have a handful of delegates so far. Why, why the anger? I mean, why not just let her run through Super Tuesday and, you know, then you’ve got a lot of delegates that have been banked by then. And it’s hard to see how she’s hurting anybody at this point, and is committed, has a lot of money.
Travis responded by noting MacCallum’s recent interview with Haley:
TRAVIS: You asked her, Martha. She didn’t say, “No, I 100% will not run for a third-party candidacy.” That’s an easy answer when you ask her. I think it’s the right question, directly. “What are you going to do here?” She said, “I’m running in the Republican primary right now.”
Well, you saw, I’m sure, the VP discussion from Dean Philips, who everybody’s forgotten about, the Minnesota congressman running against Joe Biden. He floated the idea of being her VP on a third-party ticket. To me, I don’t blame him, right? That’s at least getting his name out there in some way. But to me, that’s what this looks like. It feels to me like Nikki Haley is sabotaging her chances, not only in 2024 but in 2028 as well. And when I say–
MACCALLUM: Well, I think she sees a–
TRAVIS: If she had a–
MCCALLUM: Go ahead.
TRAVIS: When I say if she had a brain, I think if she’s trying to make a smart strategic decision, she would’ve said after New Hampshire, “You know what? It’s not happening for me, right? Let me go ahead and get behind Donald Trump and I’ll set the table.” She’s only 52 for 2028. Nothing she’s doing, Nikki Haley right now, other than setting up a third-party run to me, Martha makes any sense at all. She should be out of this race.
MCCALLUM: Well, you know, obviously she has the freedom to do what she wants to do in this country. If she wants to continue to run, she can continue to run. We’ll see if she just does decide to go another alternative route or whether she’s just trying to be in place in case something shifts in this race. But we’re going to be watching it obviously very closely on Saturday.
