Skip Bayless, Clay Travis and Other Sports Knowers Are Actually Blaming Taylor Swift for Kansas City’s Losing Streak: ‘The Chiefs Yoko Ono’
The defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs have lost five of their last eight games. And numerous prominent national commentators who are paid for their expertise on sports are blaming Taylor Swift.
Yes, the theory that the pop princess — who has been dating Kansas City’s star tight end Travis Kelce — is somehow responsible for the Chiefs’ recent downturn has been picking up steam in the sports talk world. After the Chiefs dropped a 20-14 decision to the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday, Fox Sports 1 host Skip Bayless pinned the loss on Swift.
“Feels like it’s about time to call Taylor Swift a distraction,” Bayless posted on X. “What do you think, [Chiefs quarterback] Patrick [Mahomes]? [Coach] Andy [Reid]? How about you, Travis?”

Outkick founder Clay Travis went after Kelce’s promotion of the Covid vaccine, as well as his girlfriend.
“The Chiefs are not a good football team and Travis Kelce looks like he should retire,” Travis wrote. “He’s been worthless the last seven or eight weeks. The double worthless Pfizer shots may have caught up with him. Either that or Taylor Swift is the Chiefs Yoko Ono. Maybe both.”

Kelce is on pace to catch more than 100 passes this season — something he has done only three times in his storied career. The Kansas City offense is also sorely lacking the second stellar receiving option which they have had during most of their prolific run — which has allowed opposing defenses to cover Kelce more tightly. And it’s also worth considering that Kelce is 34 years old, and has played 10 grueling seasons at a physically punishing position.
But the sports hot take artists like Bayless, Travis, and Fox Sports 1’s Craig Carton seem more inclined to chalk up Kelce and the Chiefs’ recent struggles to a star musician who watches the games from a luxury box.
“Kelce is not the Kelce he’s been for the last 20 years of his career,” Carton said on his Fox Sports 1 show Tuesday. “And I’m not sure if it’s because he’s distracted by the off-the-field stuff which is very public, or for a guy in his mid-30’s, who has talked about ‘my body doesn’t want to take anymore’ that maybe the mind has followed.”
“I do think some of the distractions are a factor,” colleague Willie Colon added.
