‘Looking More And More Like a Combat Zone’: Fox News Reports On Mass Evacuations, Fighting In North of Israel
Fox News senior foreign affairs correspondent Greg Palkot reported live from the Israeli-Lebanon border on Tuesday on the latest round of fire exchanged there between the IDF and Hezbollah as mass evacuations continue on both sides of the border.
“Israeli Defense Forces say that they have eliminated at least five terror cells in southern Lebanon, including one that launched rockets into Israel territory. Greg Palkot is live at the Israel-Lebanon border for us. At this hour, Greg, what is Hezbollah saying about a potential Israeli invasion of Gaza?” began anchor Sandra Smith.
“Sandra, Hezbollah is basically saying to Israel, do not escalate further down south or it will get worse here,” Palkot reported, adding:
The latest skirmish that we witnessed, an Israeli helicopter firing rockets at a Hezbollah location just on the other side of the border behind a ridge line about two miles away. We heard the blast. We saw the smoke. Israeli officials are telling us here on the ground that there are new strategies, preemptive strikes hitting Hezbollah, firing positions before the militants fire. The militants, using anti-tank missiles, mortars, rockets. Israel blasting back with tanks not far from where we’re standing right now. Artillery, fighter jets, armed drones.
While the clashes, we must underscore, have not yet reached a full-scale war. They’re still tying down tens of thousands of Israeli soldiers here with the potential for worse. It’s already deadly. In the last two weeks, 44 Hezbollah and other militants have been killed. Seven Israeli soldiers have been killed, civilians killed and injured, too.
That’s why evacuations are stepping up on both sides of the border. Some 100,000 Israelis have left over 40 towns here. 20,000 have fled on the Lebanon side. The region looking more and more like a combat zone. Finally, Sandra, Iran, of course, the benefactor of Hezbollah as well as Hamas.
Palkot ended by noting, “Short time ago, the U.N. Security Council secretary, Secretary of State Blinken had a message for Tehran. His words, ‘Do not open another front in this conflict.’ We will see.”
Also, on Tuesday the IDF reported stopping several Hamas fighters from infiltrating Israel from the sea as a large rocket barrage was fired on Tel Aviv and the rest of central Israel.
