ACLU Slams SCOTUS Decision to Uphold Travel Ban: ‘History Has Its Eyes on Us,’ Will Judge Harshly
The American Civil Liberties Union denounced the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold President Donald Trump‘s travel ban on majority-Muslim countries, calling it another shameful chapter in U.S. history.
“This is not the first time the Court has been wrong, or has allowed official racism and xenophobia to continue rather than standing up to it,” to organization said. “History has its eyes on us — and will judge today’s decision harshly”

The ACLU compared the 5-4 ruling to Japanese-American internment during Would War II, when the court decided that the act was lawful on the premise of national security.
In 1944, the Supreme Court allowed the US government to imprison Japanese Americans solely because of their national origin and ethnicity, based on empty claims of national security.
It’s one of the most shameful chapters of US history, and today’s decision now joins it.

The ban upheld was its September 2017 iteration shutting out travelers from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen.
The ACLU has taken aim at that policy since its announcement last fall, Executive Director Anthony D. Romero noting that while it includes North Korea and certain Venezuelan government officials, that “doesn’t obfuscate the real fact that the administration’s order is still a Muslim ban.”
“President Trump’s original sin of targeting Muslims cannot be cured by throwing other countries onto his enemies list,” Romero added.
