Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will miss the rest of the 2023-24 season after tearing a ligament in his right wrist in Thursday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported Friday.

Although Burrow was not on the Bengals’ injury report, he was seen walking into the stadium wearing some kind of wrist brace. In the first half, Burrow appeared to favor his throwing hand after attempting a pass. He was looked at by medical staff on the sideline and was then seen attempting to take warmup throws. He was completely unable to throw, making it apparent this mysterious injury was a serious one.

Burrow did not return to the game and was replaced by Jake Browning. The Bengals lost 34-20.

When it was discovered that Burrow wore the brace before the game, the NFL opened an investigation into the Bengals not listing Burrow on its injury report. Coach Zac Taylor told reporters he was unaware of any injuries to Burrow going into the game.

The 26-year-old began the season dealing with a calf injury. That had begun to improve over time as the Bengals won four straight games following a 1-3 start. It’s the second time Burrow has sustained a season-ending injury, with his first coming in his rookie season when he tore his ACL.
