Sean Hannity’s Blasting ‘Bankrupt’ FEMA Undermined By GOP Memo Obtained By Fox News Reporter
Fox News host Sean Hannity’s claim that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was “running out of money” and diverting disaster relief resources to migrant sheltering projects was undermined by a Fox News reporter, who obtained a GOP “fact-sheet” that explained how funding for the programs, both administered by FEMA, was separated.
Hannity made clear in the monologue he was responding to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ comments: “You have [Department of Homeland Security] secretary Alejandro Mayorkas saying FEMA is running out of money and going bankrupt. This has not been a busy hurricane season.”
Misinformation about FEMA and its relief response to Hurricane Helene has been widespread over the past week, pushed by former President Donald Trump, his campaign, and conservatives in the media. Several false claims circulating range from misrepresenting how disaster funding works to claiming that the Biden administration has already spent emergency relief funding on housing immigrants.
Pushing those claims during his show on Tuesday night, Hannity accused the Biden administration of “prioritizing” unvetted illegal immigrants over citizens in states impacted by Hurricane Helene by “stealing” money from FEMA.
You have [Department of Homeland Security] secretary Alejandro Mayorkas saying FEMA is running out of money and going bankrupt. This has not been a busy hurricane season. This after the FEMA directed more $1 billion to pay for housing and food for Harris-Biden illegal immigrants.
Hannity then accused Democrats of lying in their pushback that the claims about FEMA funding are misinformation.
Democrats, the state run media mob, they simply lie. They pushed propaganda before elections. Here we go again.
As proof of his claims, Hannity then cited an April press release from FEMA’s website announcing it would be administering the Shelter and Services Program (SSP) for migrants, which is funded through Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
The last two years over $1 billion from FEMA to help Harris and Biden illegal immigrants. It is not a deep fake. It’s not misinformation. It is the truth. This is the Biden administration caught red handed dedicating a massive amount of money that was supposed to be there for emergency relief for Americans in North Carolina, Georgia and elsewhere to dispense to illegal immigrants while hurricane ravaged victims all over the country are left out to dry.
Shortly after Hannity made these comments on air, Fox News senior congressional correspondent Chad Pergram announced that he had received a “fact sheet” on disaster aid assembled by the Republican-led House Appropriations Committee to clarify the issues.
The document debunked the claim that FEMA had no money and also cleared up the false understanding that money from the Disaster Relief Fund was used for the migrant shelter program, though it offered no explanation for Mayorkas comments.
“The only connection is that both programs are administered by FEMA,” Pergram reported.
